Cross Ventilation

Cross ventilation occurs when louvre windows are situated on opposing walls, allowing cool, fresh air to flow in one side of the room and hot, stale air to escape the other side. The natural flow of cool air lowers the indoor temperature of the building making it a comfortable, stable learning environment for children.

• Breezway Louvre Windows provide wonderful breezeways as they open twice as wide as many other window types so you can make the most out of natural breezes.
• Install Breezway Louvres from the floor to the ceiling to maximize natural air flow and lighting more effectively than any other window type.
• Create a thermal chimney effect by allowing cool air to flow in through louvres (either manual or automated) down low and hot air to escape through those installed closer to the ceiling. The cool air lowers the indoor temperature reducing the need for cooling systems during early morning classes and saves on energy consumption.

Energy Efficiency

Breezway Louvres are one of the most energy efficient windows as they open twice as wide as other window types to maximize cross flow ventilation. The natural air flow effectively removes the need for air-conditioning or artificial lighting so you can save on running costs and reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the environment.

• Altair™ Louvre Windows are energy rated in accordance with the Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS) and have a wide variety of glazing options to suit various climatic conditions so you can install them regardless of where your building is located.
• In warm climates a primary consideration is to reduce the amount of hot sunlight that enters the building through the windows. Low e coatings or toned glass blades are a great option.
• In cooler climates low e coatings are also beneficial as they increase the insulating properties of glass yet still allow free heating from the sun on cold days. All without compromising the view.
• Use timber blades to keep the hot sunlight out and satin glass to let the light in while retaining privacy within the room. Aluminium blades are also ideal for providing privacy in changing rooms or when installed below standard window sill heights (e.g. for privacy below desks in classrooms).

Automation Available

Combining the timeless aesthetic appearance of louvres with innovative technology, the Altair Powerlouvre™ Window is easy to operate and is ideal for out-of-reach locations. It allows the window to be opened or closed with a simple press of a wall switch, or remote control. Powerlouvres™ can even be wired into smart automation systems which allow them to respond to temperature, rain, or humidity.

• The low voltage motor is fully concealed within the window frame for a sleek look, where no ugly external rods, handles or connectors are present so you can maintain a clean aesthetic decor.
• Altair Powerlouvre™ Windows installed up high can be set to automatically open at night during warmer months to allow cool breezes to flow into the room and be retained before early morning classes. The cool air reduces the need for cooling systems throughout the day once again saving on energy consumption.

Maintenance Costs

• Breezway Louvre Windows can be safely cleaned from the inside of the building (a big advantage in multi-floor buildings).

Security Options

Secure your building from insects and vandals by installing additional security options such as key locks, security bars or security screens. Security bars or screens are highly recommended to protect your school after-hours and keep it safe even when the windows are left open.

Security bars are available to fit 152mm (6”) blade heights and security screens can be fitted to the outside of Breezway Easyscreen™ Surround Frames or other compatible systems.

Alternatively, internal screens are a good option for halls or gyms to offer protection from flying objects breaking louvre window blades.

Testing

Breezway Louvre Windows have undergone extensive testing in accordance with the Australian Standard for Windows (AS2047) to offer strength and peace of mind so you can install them confidently knowing they will increase the comfort and value of your building all year round.

• Breezway Louvres seal 60% tighter than the standard required for residential windows.
• The mechanism ensures an extremely firm fit between the louvre clips and channels to resist water and air leakage.
• This tight sealing enables Altair™ Louvres to be cyclone rated for wind and water to ensure maximum performance.
