Large Family Beachside Home, Naturally Climate Controlled

Greenhills Beach, New South Wales, Australia

Greenhills Beach is a well-known surf beach in Cronulla. In 2011 land was released for sale and a new Sydney beachside suburb was born.

The goal of the Greenhills Beach project was to provide a large family home with five generous bedrooms, office/guest accommodation, underground wine cellar and a breakout retreat including wet bar, kitchen, dining, lounge, and an entertaining area with an in-ground pool and a three car garage.

The client requested that the design was to include large expansions of glass louvre windows to capture light and sea breezes. The Designer and Builder of the project, CPT Interiors & Constructions Pty Ltd stated they wanted to design this coastal family home so it could be naturally climate controlled, therefore the simple decision was made to use Breezway Louvres to catch the summer winds from all angles. Breezway Altair Powerlouvre Windows were installed within the main living area up high, whilst manually controlled louvres were installed in the bedrooms.

Ultra-high ceilings of 3.6 metres were also incorporated into the design to create the feeling of expanse, along with huge ceiling fans, cavity and ceiling insulation in conjunction with the louvre windows to reduce the need for air conditioning.

Underfloor heating was strategically placed to all polished concrete areas including bathrooms and a fully integrated smart system to help keep the family living in a comfortable space all year round.
