Hilltop House Channels Prevailing Breezes

Sydney, Australia
Built on the western foreshore slope of Clareville Beach, floor to ceiling Altair Louvre Windows have been specified by Richard Cole Architecture and installed throughout this residential project to maximise natural views, prevailing breezes and cross flow ventilation. As cross ventilation is an essential element of passive design, the home has been designed to ensure energy efficiency was increased. Timber frames incorporating Altair Louvre Galleries have been selected to achieve this as they open twice as wide as regular windows to maximise ventilation while providing protection from heat gain by direct sunlight with the use of low e glass blades. This helps keep the home at a comfortable temperature, no matter what time of day it is. The images above show the beautiful natural surroundings and breath-taking bush views that helped this project win a 2010 AWA award for ‘Best Use of Windows’ in a new residential construction.
